Agenda Item #1: Welcome and Introductions

The May 27, 1999 minutes were approved. John Nimmo has retired from state government as of today. A card was shared with ITMC members for signing and mailed to John.

Agenda Item #2: Information Technology Services

  1. Wes Hunsberger shared information for Linda Plazak regarding datawarehousing. The recent vendor tool day was a success and we appreciate everyone’s support. On July 1 there will be a planning meeting to develop criteria for determining tool sets. DHS is currently doing an assessment of their readiness and approach to datawarehouse. The CJJP is installing a tera data platform in the next quarter.
  2. Kip Peters shared the physical security on the B-Level is being enhanced. Therefore, remodeling efforts are currently underway.
  3. Kip Peters shared the ITMC has mailed a survey to member to seek business/policy and IT nominations for the following work groups: Documentation; Technology; Physical Security; Configuration Management; and Security Awareness, Training and Education. Nominations are due July 9 to Lorrie Tritch at DHS.
  4. ITS is leading the effort to possibly add an ITS 6 and 7 to the current series. The ITMC role will be to respond and provide input. A draft document should be out soon.
  5. Russ Rozinek shared there will be a pilot for the 3270 solution and dial up replacement will be implemented soon.
  6. Rich Varn shared he is filling a position to develop design and develop training materials. The cost for this service will be shared with us sometime soon. He is also filling a position of a grant writer and another position to serve as the liaison with Government. ITS is reviewing backup storage solutions. Centralized storage will be discussed at a future meeting. A meeting was also held recently regarding the utilization of Lotus Notes and Microsoft Exchange/Outlook for the e-mail packages for the state of Iowa. A transition team has been formed and the first meeting is July 1. Rich Jacobs is the ITMC representative on this team. A request for proposal may be sent out for meeting facilitation, outreach, meeting logistics, etc. and a second potential RFP for a consultant to share different technology organizational structures with benefits and areas needing to address.

Agenda Item #3: Iowa Communications Network

Steve Palm said the ITMC list is going to be updated on the Iowa Hub to be set up as a list serve and to serve as a mailing list.

Four areas are piloting the fax services: DHS, Library, Secretary for State and Public Health.

The charge for Internet services through the ICN will be announced soon.

Agenda Item #4: Presentation

Dave Doom, IBM Government Representative, presented the "IBM Personal Systems, Hardware Trends and Directions." A lot of discussion was held – handout is attached.
